BEGINNER WORKSHOP
- 3 days in a row. 3 hours and 30 minutes pr. day
This is a beginner's course for those who would like to be introduced to the world of ceramics. All beginners can participate! Also older children from the age of 12 – 13 years, in the company of a parent.
On this course you will be introduced to different types of stoneware clay and understand their different strenghts and weaknesses. You will also lean about the hole process from handbuilding a piece, how to dry it and finally how to fire it.
You will be making 2 – 4 smaller works using different techniques. You decide for yourself how to decorate them, but I will also teach you how to make the edges thin, delicate and lively like my own works.
The course will prepare you to continue working with clay in a home environment, as you will get to know the entire process from handbuilding to drying and firering - and you will also get insight into what kind of tools you need to get started and where to buy them. It will also prepare you for participating in other types of more advanced ceramic workshops.
Day 1: Clay types and making ceramic pieces with plaster moldes (kvætsemetoden)
-
You will first and foremost be making your very first piece using a plaster mold (kvætsemetoden)
-
You will also be introduced to the 3 different kinds of clay: earthennware (lertøj), stoneware (stentøj) and porcelain (porcelæn) - what is the difference?
-
In the workshop we will be working with stoneware and you will get to feel a few of them ind order to understand how different they can be. It can be black clay, red, gray or traditional white clay - you can trying working with several of them
-
You will learn about the do'es and dont's - ex. why do clay sometimes explode og crack during firering
Day 2: The coil-methode (pølsemetoden)
-
You will learn how to use the coil method (pølsemetioden). This is the method I use to make all my pieces
-
You will also learn how you can combine the plastermold method and the coil method. This combination method is really good for beginners because you can quickly start making large and professional looking pieces. This is not a method you learn in a "ordinary" ceramics class
Day 3: Plate technique (plade-teknik) and firing
-
We continue to work on your pieces from day 1 and 2, give them form, character and finesse
-
You will also briefly be introduced to the last method which is called "plate technique"
-
You will be introduced to the different fireringstypes; bisque firering (forglødning), glaze firering (glasurbrænding) and the methode I use which is the single firering method
You will get to bring home 2 - 4 smaller lovely pieces.. I ALWAYS teach quality over quantity, so how many you make depend on how challeging the pieces you choose to make are.
DKK 255 euro ( aprox.1.875 DKK) is paid upon registration, and 30 euro (aprox. DKK 210 DKK) for materials is paid on site
There will be coffee and water during the course.
PS. 90% come alone without a friend. We have a good time, everyone talks to everyone.
